Blog

I make posts to the blog at random intervals on topics that I find interesting.

I will also be making regular posts on my PhD writing journey.

Objectivity in Research

My current research is on examining military effectiveness, specifically in the context of a potential China - US conflict, and what that would mean to the global balance of power and I find myself thinking a lot recently about my current research and how much of it is being driven by my own personal biases.

I was born in the Middle East but I lived most of my adult life in the West. I live in Stockholm, my wife is Swedish, and my soon to be born daughter will be Swedish as well. I have always had a natural affinity to the US and to Western style liberal democracies. And as I carry on with my research, I find that I am increasingly hoping to find that the rise of china narrative is false. That the US is still the most powerful country for the foreseeable future. That despite all the convulsions taking place in the western liberal world today, that the international system will not be replaced by a Chinese or a Russian led order.

Im not sure how to address these biases, and how to make sure they dont skew my findings. But I guess the first step is to notice that tendency in myself and hope to curb it is I move forward. I will continue to update this blog with my journey to completing this PhD in the future.
